Description

If you would like to book a place after 1 March please contact Dr Rachel Scott (rachel.scott@kcl.ac.uk) to enquire about last minute availability.

This event builds on the publication of a report on My primary school is at the museum (http://www.kcl.ac.uk/schoolsinmuseums), a project led by King’s College London which tested the hypothesis that there may be beneficial learning, social and cultural outcomes for children and their families if a significant portion of their nursery, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 education takes place in a museum or gallery – not to mention benefits for the cultural organisations themselves.

The forum is aimed at museum and gallery learning and education staff, UK school teachers and education specialists and will feature:
• Keynotes including David Anderson, Director General of Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales
• Panel discussions with: museums and schools involved in the project (National Waterfront Museum in Swansea, Tate Liverpool, the Arbeia Roman Fort & Museum, South Shields and their local schools – St Thomas Community Primary School, Life Bank Nursery at Kensington Children’s Centre, and Hadrian Primary School); Kate Measures, Heritage Insider Ltd, who conducted the project evaluation; academic advisors Dr Heather King and Dr Jennifer DeWitt, School of Education, Communication & Society at King’s.
• Facilitators including Wendy James, concept initiator and architect with experience of creating learning spaces in museums
• Workshops on a variety of key issues, including: Practical next steps for developing closer museum-school relationships in your region; the feasibility of permanent museum-school co-location
• Networking opportunities with other learning and education professionals
