Description

Web3.0 Societies. Cultural Configurations of Technofinancial Capitalism

A conference organised by the ESRC project Professional Hybridisations and Epistemic Practices of Cryptocapital and the Future of Financial Work (FinWork) Research Centre at King’s Business School, King’s College London

25-26 May 2023, Bush House - 8th Floor North, 30 Aldwych, WC2B 4BG

The juncture of finance and data technologies, crucial for contemporary capitalism, has over the past decade generated intense debates around the changes it triggers in institutions, interaction formats, and cultural templates of social life. The now emerging Web3.0 configurations are intrinsic to this juncture. They are presented as a significant new stage in the evolution of the digital realm, aiming at reshaping social institutions and interactions.

What are these projected reconfigurations and how do they work on the ground so far? How do they imagine the future of society, and how do they justify this imagining?

The conference will bring together social science scholars from the UK, Continental Europe, North America, and East Asia to present original research on and debate Web3.0 issues such as decentralised trust and verification, distributed digital organisations, valuation of and markets in code, the institutions of the metaverse, and cultures of expertise in the Web3.0 realm, among others.

Join us on 25-26 May 2023 in Bush House, London!
